Lean Test
The NASA Lean Test is a quick, non-invasive way to assess how well your body maintains blood flow to the brain when you’re upright. It helps uncover signs of orthostatic intolerance—a common but often overlooked factor in fatigue, dizziness, and cognitive fog.

Lean Test
What is the NASA Lean Test?
The Lean Test is a simple, 10‑minute standing assessment that reveals whether your heart and blood‑vessel reflexes keep enough blood flowing to your brain when you’re upright. By having you stand with your heels a few inches from the wall and shoulders touching it, the test removes most of the leg‑muscle pump that normally assists circulation—making hidden orthostatic intolerance (OI) conditions such as postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) or orthostatic hypotension easy to spot. (The protocol was first used by NASA researchers to study cardiovascular shifts in astronauts—hence its nickname, the “NASA Lean Test.”)What does the Lean Test measure?
- Heart‑rate rise from lying to standing
- Minute‑by‑minute blood‑pressure changes (systolic, diastolic, pulse pressure)
- Symptoms triggered by upright stress: light‑headedness, brain fog, palpitations, nausea
Why might someone need this test?
- Dizziness, fatigue, or cognitive “crashes” after standing
- Suspected POTS, CIRS/mold illness, Lyme, long COVID, or autonomic dysfunction
- Baseline for Rezilir Brain‑Health, Detox, or Longevity programs
- Monitoring response to salt/fluid loading, compression gear, medications, or HBOT
What is it like to take this test?
- Rest supine for 10–15 minutes while we record baseline vitals.
- Stand with heels 6–8 inches from the wall, shoulder blades touching.
- We record blood pressure and heart rate every minute for 10 minutes and note any symptoms.
- If you become pre‑syncopal, we stop early and have you lie down.
How does this test fit into your care at Rezilir?
Orthostatic stress can sap energy, worsen brain fog, and slow detox pathways. An objective Lean Test lets us confirm OI and target treatments—salt repletion, compression garments, autonomic retraining, or selective medications—instead of guessing. How We Use the Results
- Big heart‑rate jump- Points to a “fast‑heart‑when‑standing” issue (POTS) — we work on calming the heartbeat and improving circulation.
- Blood‑pressure drop- Shows low pressure when upright — we help raise and steady it so you feel less dizzy.
- Very narrow gap between the two pressure numbers- Means the heart isn’t getting enough blood to pump — we focus on boosting blood flow back to the heart.
Common Programs or Evaluations This Test Supports
- The Rezilir Way for Chronic Conditions
- The Rezilir Way for Cognitive Decline
How much does the Lean Test cost?
$35 per test — performed as a stand‑alone screen or bundled into your broader Rezilir evaluation. We quote all costs up front so you can choose confidently.Disclaimer: This website is provided for informational purposes only and does not constitute endorsement of treatments, individuals, or programs which appear herein.
